| get a good spam filter, because many of those minor annoyances like to see you try to unsubscribe so they know your address is active then they send your address to everybody trying to sell everything. |

| | Do you have spam? Put it in your spam box so it doesn't come to your inbox. Eventually if you do it enough times they get the picture. Try it atleast. I have my yahoo account finally under control. |

| Almost every type of online newsletter eventually creates more spam in your inbox. Whether it is because you get sick of the newsletter but they keep sending it or because they share your email address with other companies. What I recommend to people is to create a Yahoo or Hotmail email address for the sole purpose of these kinds of newsletters and for other online uses. Any time I need to fill out an online form and provide an email address, I use the Yahoo one. That way, any and all spam eventually sent goes there and not to my primary email address. Then, once a month or so, I clear out that Yahoo inbox.
Discourage friends and family from giving out your email address to companies that are looking for referrals as well. My sister in law is notorious for this. She's constantly going to websites that offer her some kind of "deal" in exchange for providing a handful of legit email addresses of friends.
As for trying to unsubscribe to the newsletter, here's something to try. That newsletter is most likely linked to a website, right? Go to that website and hunt around to see if you can find a link for "Contact Us." Use that email address to contact the people and request to be removed from the mailing list. |

| A lot of spam email we get is known as "phishing" and that is exactly what it sounds like-fishing for details.
Once you click the "unsubscribe me" button, they have the reply aka your email address, and can then send your email addy out willy-nilly (I love using that wordage) ;-)
solution: Don't answer them.
"Remove lists don't work. You can opt out, when in fact what clicking on the link to unsubscribe will do is simply verify that you have a valid e-mail address, so that you can then get lots of spam instead of a little," said Howard Beales, director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection.

Easiest solution is to rip all the plugs from the back of your computer and go weep softly in the corner. |
