| I liked this movie. I also love Will Smith. It was short though. My husband hated it. My kids loved it. So, you'll have to take a chance on it. Sorry it took me so long to post this. |

| How closely did it follow Matheson's story? |

| I never read the book so I can't tell you TimberWolf. I really liked the movie because it made you think, what would I do? How would I survive. I thought it was well done. And it goes beyond liking Will Smith. |

I do plan to see it, once it hits DVD. It is nigh impossible for us to go see a real movie in the theaters.
I'm intrigued because I've heard both a lot of good things and a lot of bad things. Not much in the middle, it seems to be a real love it or hate it movie. I like Will Smith a lot. I find him very entertaining.
However, from what I've heard, they stray pretty far from the source material, which is a bummer. I Am Legend is one of my favorite horror stories. And, it is one that would translate quite well to the screen on its own, without Hollywood monkeying around with it. |

| Ok, finally saw I Am Legend last night. I liked the first 2/3 of the movie or so. The ending was awful, in my opinion. Contrived and predictable. The CGI "monsters" were terrible. I liked Will Smith. He did a great job, for the most part. I loved the scene where he goes into the darkened building looking for Sam. Very frightening without resorting to outright gore and violence. As expected, about the only thing in common with the original novel is the title and the main character's name. As a stand alone movie, I'd give it a B-. As an adaption from a novel, I give it an F. |

I saw the "original" ending posted online. Had they stuck to that ending, the movie would have been better. Still wouldn't have followed the original book at all, but the movie would have been improved had the kept the originally filmed ending.
What follows is a spoiler for the book. If you plan to read it sometime, skip over this part.
In the book, what happens is he is really the last human being on the planet. He's been going around killing these zombie/vampire things for a long time. But, those creatures are really the "new humans" and they've taken over the planet. Much in the way that we consider vampires "legends" in today's world, these new creatures would tell stories about this human who goes around killing them during the day hours. Thus, Neville is the LEGEND referred to in the title. |
